We're still waiting to hear back from Bob Gorman on our two pieces of last week challenging him to put up or shut up. We'll be waiting a long time. How come? Because the questions I pose to Gorman, the Watertown Daily Times will never, ever write about. Because they can't. They're just not equipped.
Like say, the $30,000 question I posed to Gorman. The WDT never address it because it opens up a pandora's box for them. Look, I have no idea what Wright did with the money. I don't know if he's done anything that violates election law or any other law. Nor am I disposed to go looking it up. What he's done could be perfectly legal. I dunno. I don't really care. Nor do I care that he's going to be running DANC. As far as I'm concerned, those asshats on the DANC board hired Wright, they can keep him. But they better be ready to inherit the whirlwind (and the bloggers watching his every move). Because mark my words, it's gonna blow through there. Just like this place.
The thing I do care about is that Wright's campaign money is someplace that he doesn't feel like telling us. But the one place it's not is back in his contributors' pockets. Which of course, leads straight smack into our thesis that Wright will run DANC the same way. All about Jim Wright first, and money gone away to strange places he doesn't feel like telling anybody about. Because you see, the money's really his, and not his contributors, not the taxpayers', not mine, and not yours.
Not to belabor the point but who who asks for, and gives somebody, $150K a year while this and this are happening? The only people that do so are people convinced that everybody but themselves are idiots.
My guess is that everybody in the North Country knows everything I just typed is true--love NGD or loathe NGD for writing it all down. You can be sure Wright and JJ know this all too well, but got it in their heads that us unwashed non-insiders (as Big-Blog Bob smugly puts it) can't do a thing about it. The only ones who could shine a light on something like Wright's wayward campaign funds--or DANC, under his management--are people like JJ and Gorman. But they're all into each others' pocket. And from what we understand, everybody else is just scared to cross these guys.
Back in the day, that strategy works just fine. Except we're not back in the day, we're in 2009. Nobody needs the Watertown Daily Times any longer. Nor in 2009 does anybody need 'public servants' or newspaper publishers to be scared of.
